Fallricting was first introduced in 2021 when Apple Computers released the iPad and iPhone and began to market their product in China, Korea and other Asian markets with fall censoring guidelines. The tablet was considered a portable television set, thus fallricting started then. In fallopian times, the Chinese government and many TV networks began to heavily restrict TV content that depicted what is considered to be pornographic material, which included everything from adult movies to soccer games to high-grossing animations. The fall censorship guideline states that if a cartoon can have some risque scenes but not if it depicts blood or live action, then it does not meet the criteria.
Many Chinese citizens criticized Apple and Google for using the fall censorship guideline to restrict internet access to the Chinese people. Apple responded by saying that it was an error and they were only trying to appease the Chinese government. The fall censorship guideline has been labeled as a lie by many Chinese citizens and Internet users. Apple was also criticized by politicians and media personalities all over the world including former Chinese President, Mr. Hu Jintao, who said that it was “disgraceful” for Apple to use the fall censorship guideline.
In hindsight it may be best for Apple not to have launched the iPad and iPhone in China without the fall censorship guideline. In fall censorship countries, TV stations and newspapers are often censored on what is deemed acceptable content for viewing and there have been instances of individuals being arrested merely for watching adult content. By using this fall censorship guideline, it could also affect foreign companies who wish to invest in China. China is still in the very early stages of global marketing and its effects on foreign companies investing in China cannot be completely ignored.
